Tourism in Australia
Tourism in Australia is one of its main draws. The Commonwealth of Australia is as famous for its warm weather as it is for its opera house in Sydney and its indigenous inhabitants. Made up of six colonies, New South Wales, Tasmania, Western Australia, South Australia, Victoria and Queensland, this country is the sixth largest in the world. In regards to ocean territory, Australia is the third largest, yet it is the driest continent on the planet. Despite the hot climate, the coastline goes on for miles and the variety of animal and plant species is diverse and impressive.
When visiting Australia, you can snorkel in the Great Barrier Reef, explore Canberra, the country’s capital, or take a camel ride through the desert of New South Wales. After a trek in the Northern Territory, take a dip in the watering hole at Glen Helen Gorge then pitch a tent and spend the night under the stars.
Western Australia offers bull rides, outback horse racing and fishing as well as a view of Lake Argyle while Victoria gives visitors a peak into the life and culture of the Aboriginals. Travelers might also enjoy swimming with whale sharks, walking through rainforests, visiting with kangaroos and koalas or climbing the Australian Alps.
The Australian government has a good relationship with the United States, so travelers do not usually have a problem visiting this country. However, you should check for travel warnings, alerts and trip registration information online or by calling the United States Department of State's Consular Information Program. This agency is responsible for all things related to travel and can help people with passports, emergencies and US Embassy locations.
